Seán Talbot's Scintillating Self-Discovery Smut Show was a theatrical clowning performance made for and performed in Into the New 2022 at the New Athenaeum Theatre at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and released online.
Made while coming out of a pandemic and multiple lockdowns, this performance was a comedic and tender dive into sexuality during isolation. A two man show- one performer and one dildo together explore all the possibilities of connection and objectification with a live audience. Preoccupied with questions of connection, pleasure, representation and materiality, Seán was inspired by intimate queer performance artist Adrian Howells, Le Gateaux Chocolat, Ivo Dimchev, as well as the styles of cabaret and clowning performance, and reading Matthew Todd's Straight Jacket, Why Is That So Funny? by John Wright, Queer Phenomenology by Sarah Ahmed and more. Seán Talbot's Scintillating Self-Discovery Smut Show was a physical performance where flesh meets silicone, glitter, and reality.
Created and performed by Seán Talbot in front of a small live audience and filmed by Gregor Barclay for the digital Into The New festival 2022.
